Dragon Boat Racing

So yesterday (Wednesday) threatened rain and thunder showers, but that didn't stop me from commuting to and from work on my bike. Whatever, it's just water, I won't melt. Luckily, I escaped any stretches of rain. Came home and went out for a 7 mile run along the Charles River. Same route as usual, start at the Hatch Shell, head down the Esplanade along Storrow Drive past the Mass Ave bridge, cross the river at the aptly named River Street and come back around along Memorial Drive on the Cambridge side.

So, while I was chugging along on the Cambridge side, I happened upon two dragon boats in the river (one with 10 paddlers, the other with 14) that were very close to shore and about to race each other. One of the crew counted down from 5-4-3-2-1-GO! And all the folks started paddling furiously. It was just at that "GO" moment that I became even with them, so I found myself unwittingly a third wheel in a two boat race. I thought it would be fun to see how my 150 beats per minute heart rate pace fared against these boats/paddlers. I was just a bit faster, and after about two minutes I had pulled forward from both boats about 15-20 yards. So I guess I did a little dragon boat racing last night.
