February 2010 update

Ah yes, the blog…

So I’m calling February “the lost month of 2010” – it was a tough month for me for several reasons, but essentially I wasn’t able to do as much as I had wanted. Thank goodness Feb is the shortest month of the year. During the first week, I sprained my right ankle. Thankfully, I was able to apply the “PRICE” treatment immediately – protected it with a sturdy ankle brace that I had from previous sprains, rested it, had ice on within the first couple minutes of spraining it, wore a compression sleeve, and elevated the ankle above my heart immediately to keep the swelling down. I’m convinced what was potentially an agonizing 6 weeks of recovery that lay ahead of me was reduced to just a week or so due to treating it promptly this way.

In any case, instead of telling you what I didn’t do during Feb, I’ll just say that I did manage to bike to work a few more times (in some rather bone chilling temps and wind), went ice skating (at the frog pond in Boston) followed by some immensely fun group karaoke (Limelight anyone?), skied for 3 days at Loon Mountain (which included going down a double-black diamond called “Ripsaw” – very steep, but probably too wide really to qualify as categorized), and finally went ballroom dancing one night (a much enjoyed continuation of having gone in January).

Over the course of the month, I fit in some pull-ups and push-ups and was able to get up to 7 pull-ups at once, and 30 push-ups at once, finishing the month having done a total of 79 pull-ups and 247 push-ups. Body fat % crept back up by the end of the month as expected, since I put on a few pounds having not done as much cardio (e.g. zero, zilch, zippo miles of running), but ah well… um, there’s always next month, right!?
